Why our shrimp taste better: quality. In addition, our water is quality controlled throughout the shrimp growth cycle with daily monitoring, sampling, and analyses. SECOND - It's The Feed - Our shrimp are fed a proprietary feed manufactured to exacting ISO quality certified standards. and FINALLY - It's HOW you Harvest - At harvest time farmed shrimp are typically removed from the water either by a seine net, a mechanical pump, or by the use of a weir. All of our shrimp are weir harvested. We believe this is the best way to harvest shrimp. Shrimp that are weir harvested undergo less stress, are less injured, and are cleaner, i.e. less muddy, than shrimp harvested by other methods. Weir harvesting works by taking advantage of the shrimps natural instinct to "follow the tide". As the weir is opened, the shrimp sense the change in the current and swim toward the weir. Once in the weir, which is concrete lined, the shrimp can not escape back into the pond. They are then carried by the water current into a net sock that is opened by hand and the shrimp placed into a net basket where the shrimp are loaded, weighed and placed on ice for fresh delivery. The water removed from the shrimp pond is then pumped back into our adjoining catfish operation where the water is then recycled resulting in negligible discharge to the environment.
