About Us

Forkland Springs Farm, LLC was founded in 1993.  The farm is situated in the
heart of the Deep South in what is known as the  Blackbelt Region of
Alabama, so named for it's rich, dark soil.  The farm is located approximately
two hour's drive west of Birmingham, Alabama. For driving directions to the

How did Forkland Springs Farm get it's name?
Forkland Springs Farm got it's name from the numerous artesian springs that
are found on the property.
Why catfish?
In the past, farming in this area proved unsuitable for row crops. This is due to
the high clay content and poor drainage of the soil.  Upon careful evaluation, it
was determined that the land is best suited for commercial aquaculture.
What is so unique about Forkland Springs Farm?
The groundwater underlying Forkland Springs Farm is relatively salty (5 parts
per thousand), yielding naturally brackish water.  Catfish are found to thrive
better in brackish water than in purely fresh water.
Why shrimp? What kind of shrimp do you raise?
After successfully producing catfish for several years, the farm management
decided to try raising saltwater shrimp in the year 2000. The shrimp species is
Litopenaeus Vannamei, commonly known as Pacific White Shrimp.
What's new at Forkland Springs Farm?
In 2009, a new hunting lodge with a dedicated 2,000 foot grass airstrip was
completed. Our lodge provides hunters with a unique quail hunting
experience in the distinctive southern tradition. Overnight stays are welcome.
Both guided and unguided hunts are available. Horseback riding is provided
for both hunters and non-hunters staying at the lodge. Call Greg Arnold at
